''We believe diversity is the spark which ignites debate and engagement, leading to a deeper and better understanding for all.''
We are delighted to be re-stocking for Spring Summer '16 with a new collection of ever-popular Peckham Soul t-shirts. Founded by Craig Jamieson (DJ Solid C), creativity and diversity is at the centre of Peckham Soul's ethos. The aim is to celebrate the rich cultural mix of SE15 through clothing, art and music.
Music is a glue that has bound us together in many ways throughout history, and it's the musical heritage of Peckham and South East London that drives Peckham Soul's mission to engage in debate and to discuss negative views around diversity.
"Peckham's history of musical diversity is, well, diverse! Currently venues such as The CLF Art Café/Bussey Building, Canavan’s, Peckham Pelican, Bar Story, The Gowlett, The Sun Camberwell, Montague Arms and many others reflect this. But it stretches way back - from Motown dancing at the Paradise in Peckham Rye Lane in the 1960's, to Admiral Ken Sound system at Mr Bee (The Bouncing Ball), Peckham’s illicit ‘Blues Parties,’ and the rise of sound systems such as Jah Shaka in the 1970’s and 80’s, to raga & dancehall, and up to the contemporary musical exploration of ‘Rhythm Section,’ Peckham has always buzzed with musical interaction and invention."
The Bias team had a fabulous night out at Peckham Soul's last Together , a night of eclectic Northern Soul in the authentic Long Field Hall community centre in Camberwell. It was great to see such a variety of ages (and outfits!) all in one room dancing. Check out their upcoming local events, enjoy the music and come in to Bias and buy a T-shirt! We think they are fantastic for summer and also make great gifts.
